Overview

The University Grants Commission (UGC) established under the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 is the apex body of the University System in Sri Lanka. It is located at No 20, Ward Place, Colombo 07.

Regulation of the admission of students to each Higher Educational Institution is one of the main objectives of the UGC under the said Universities Act. Accordingly, at present the UGC selects students for admission to undergraduate courses for 14 National Universities, 3 Campuses and 5 Institutes, which have been set up under the said Universities Act.

This is an online service implemented by the UGC with the objective of admitting students to universities within the possible shortest period of time based on G.C.E. (A/L) Examination in each year.

This system enables to authenticate details of students who apply for university admission in each year and also it avoids unnecessary delays in processing inaccurate/unclear handwritten data sent by students in their application forms through the paper- based conventional method.

Therefore; candidates should apply for university admission online through this system and submit the printed version of the online application form having duly signed and along with the necessary supporting documents to the UGC on or before the last date for submission of applications as pronounced by press notices. The candidates should note that the electronic application submitted by them online will not be considered for university admission unless the candidates fulfill the above requirement as per the instructions given in the Admissions Handbook.

Also by using this online service students authorize the UGC to contact them via given email address, mobile phone number, by way of postal letters or any other electronic and non-electronic means of communication during and after processing of the application.
